Blessed are all who take refuge in the Lord. — Psalm 2:(see 11)
Mass readings: Acts 4:23-31 / John 3:1-8
I often drive by a middle-aged street preacher on a local corner right near the McDonald’s. Even when my car’s windows are rolled up, I can hear him. “You must be born again,” he’ll thunder. Most other drivers just shake their heads or look the other way. I give him credit for taking his faith to the streets. He may be shrill and lack interpersonal skills, but his words are straight from the Bible and they remind me of the need to reflect on my own spirituality.
In today’s Gospel Jesus tells Nicodemus he must be born again. Scholars can debate the precise meaning of this but we know Jesus calls us to be mindful of things above, to be holy, to love one another. It’s never too late to rededicate ourselves to our Christian identity.
Prayer: Jesus, let the focus of my life be my relationship with You.
