Our God of the Everyday 

My two youngest boys play soccer at their Catholic grade school. The soccer players are typical kids. They don’t quite know what to do with all their energy or quite how to relate to one another. They bump into one another and tease one another. But at the end of practice the coach calls them into a circle. They quiet down, join hands and pray the Our Father — out in public at a crowded park with others around. God is among them. 

Today’s Gospel presents the familiar story of two disciples not recognizing the resurrected Jesus on the road to Emmaus. God was among them all along. So it is in our daily lives. God is always present.
