Father, into your hands I commend my spirit. — Luke 23:46
Mass Readings: Isaiah 52:13–53:12 / Hebrews 4:14-16;5:7-9 / John 18:1–19:42
I was fired from my job a while ago. It was abrupt, unexpected, and I believe, entirely unwarranted. So there I was with three young kids and a load of bills. My wife didn’t work outside the home. We looked at each other and said, “What do we do now?” Fortunately, I quickly found a job. It was dreary and unfulfilling, but it got us by. While I worked there I desperately sought another job. After years of school and professional success, I was back to square one. The good news is I eventually found a great job, one much better than the one I had lost. Losing my job was the best thing that ever happened to me.
Good Friday is about the cross. But there is hope. There is new life. God will provide.
Prayer: Jesus, help me to persevere through the hard times.
