April 2, Monday of Holy Week

The Lord is my light and my salvation. — Psalm 27:1

Mass readings: Isaiah 42:1-7 / John 12:1-11

A Special Week

Like many, I begin my work week on Monday. I crawl out of bed, go through my morning routine, and trudge to work for another week of deadlines, demands and frustrations. I’m glad to have a job but each week seems like the movie Groundhog Day. I keep doing the same thing over and over. I navigate mini-crises, put out fires, and try to get to the end of the day with my dignity and sanity intact.

But this week is not like any other week. It’s Holy Week. We recall the death and resurrection of our Lord. Our lives may seem mundane and routine but they’re charged with meaning. God is with us. We may be buried in work or overwhelmed by responsibility, but God loves us and shepherds us through each moment of each day.

Prayer: Lord, help me understand that my life is a gift that needs to be treasured.
