Blessed the man who greatly delights in the Lord’s commands. — Psalm 112:(see 1)
Mass Readings: James 2:14-24,26 / Mark 8:34–9:1
The busy and goal-oriented world in which we live almost demands our attention. Our responsibilities, duties, and opportunities are never fewer; they are always more and of greater complexity. We often get so wrapped up in what we do, the people we know, and the things we possess that our priorities can become a bit askew. Jesus understood this human tendency and so He warned us against gaining the world at the expense of God.
Our Lord’s challenge encourages us to reevaluate our priorities to seek Him first, confident that all other things will be provided. We may gain the world, but what good is that if in the process we lose our opportunity to find God? Which will we choose today — God or the world?
Prayer: Help me, Lord God, to always place You first in my life.
