Blessed the man you instruct, O Lord. — Psalm 94:12
Mass Readings: James 1:12-18 / Mark 8:14-21
People today are often warned to keep their eyes and ears open. We need to know what’s happening around us; to be aware of our surroundings, the environment, and the situation in which we might find ourselves. Jesus warned His apostles of the same reality. At times they were rather close-minded; they didn’t look beyond their immediate purview, whether that was their person or their small group of disciples.
Being aware of what’s happening in our world is important. We miss too much, are unable to make wise decisions, and simply fail to appreciate the vast richness of God’s creation when we don’t keep ourselves open to new things, people, and possibilities. Let’s keep our senses attuned to the reality of God’s presence among us.
Prayer: God our Father, never allow me to be close-minded in dealing with others.
