February 10, St. Scholastica

I am the Lord, your God; hear my voice. — Psalm 81:11 and 9

Mass Readings: 1 Kings 11:29-32; 12:19 / Mark 7:31-37

Consequences for Actions

We may sometimes be blind to the reality of it, but there are consequences for our actions. These may not be manifested immediately, but they will come. Hard work and proper attitude produce good results; laziness, infidelity, or poor attitude eventually draw negative consequences. Today’s first reading is the culmination of a longer story. The inability of Solomon’s sons to agree on how to govern had the consequence of splitting the kingdom into two nations, Israel in the north and Judah in the south.

We may think that we can get away with something, that nobody is watching. We may feel that our sincere efforts are not appreciated, but people are watching and noticing. Let us realize that there are consequences for our actions, both good and bad.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to make wise decisions that draw me closer to You.
