Praise the Lord, who heals the brokenhearted. — Psalm 147:(see 3)
Mass Readings: Job 7:1-4,6-7 / 1 Corinthians 9:16-19,22-23 / Mark 1:29-39
Evangelization — proclaiming the word of God — is a basic task of Christians. Jesus’ public ministry, as today’s Gospel indicates, sent Him to various peoples and places. It was necessary to go to them. St. Paul certainly captured this fervor in his famous missionary journeys throughout the Eastern Mediterranean world. As he tells the Corinthians, he is compelled to proclaim the Gospel.
Being an evangelist is our vocation as well, but it need not be done in the overt ways we often think. Setting a good example, providing a helping hand, and extending a kind gesture or word can all be fundamentally important ways to bring people closer to Christ and thus proclaim His word. May we be bold in word and action to live our contemporary call as evangelists.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, send me forth to do as You will.
