The Lord takes delight in his people. — Psalm 149:(see 4)
Mass Readings: 1 John 5:14-21 / John 2:1-11
Today’s first reading says, “And we have this confidence in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, we know that what we have asked him for is ours.”
This is the confidence demonstrated by Mary in today’s Gospel. Wine runs out at the wedding feast and Mary promptly turns to Jesus. All she says is, “They have no wine,” but these words demonstrate her confidence in Jesus’ ability to help. “Do whatever he tells you,” Mary tells the servants, certain that Jesus will handle the problem. In a crisis, or at crossroads, is Jesus the first person I turn to? Having shared my concerns with Him, am I ready to do as He says?
Prayer: Father, help me always to make prayer a first priority, and never a last resort.
