Those who follow you, Lord, will have the light of life. — John 8:12
Mass Readings: Isaiah 48:17-19 / Matthew 11:16-19
St. Juan Diego (1474-1548) seems to be one of Mary’s favorites — and for good reason. He was exactly one of those meek souls Jesus blessed. He was an unassuming man who just went to Mass, lived his life simply, and tried to be good. God entrusted to him a great miracle of grace: the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the great sign of the image of Our Lady that was imprinted on his tilma.
As you probably know, that image still exists today in the great basilica erected in her honor. Millions of pilgrims still flock to it every year to pray and remember that when Mary came to the Americas, she wore the face of the conquered not the conqueror.
Prayer: St. Juan, pray for us that we may please Jesus and Mary as you do.
