Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. — Psalm 118:26
Mass Readings: Isaiah 26:1-6 / Matthew 7:21,24-27
Both Isaiah and Jesus talk about building on rock. I live in Seattle, where the “Rain Festival” lasts all year. Generally, we don’t have epic precipitation, just a gray drizzle. But now and then some bodacious storm will rip through the area and dump serious rain or snow on us in a short time.
When that happens, Seattleites will sometimes get a lesson on the importance of building on rock. For example, there’s a gas station not far from my house that had half its parking lot sink into the earth and disappear forever. Turns out they built on sand. So did the builders of the expensive (and never occupied) “Leaning Condos” downtown. When you take the extra effort to build on rock now, you don’t have regrets later.
Prayer: Father, help us build on Christ the Rock by living according to His word.
