Let my tongue be silenced if I ever forget you! — Psalm 137:6
Mass readings: Nehemiah 2:1-8 / Luke 9:57-62
A few years ago I took a class on the Catechism of the Catholic Church. When it came to a challenging topic, the teacher would sometimes ask, “Are you ‘all in’?” That’s what Jesus seems to be asking in today’s Gospel: Are you unconditionally committed to Me? Are you “all in”? A tough question. The most I can say is, I’m doing my best. I think I’m more “in” now — more committed to God — than I was a year ago. I hope to be more “in” next year than I am now.
That’s the mystery and beauty of the spiritual journey. God loves you and me right where we are at this moment, and yet He always is calling us to more — more commitment, more love and, as a result, more fullness of life.
Prayer: Lord, help me to say “yes” — to be “all in” for You throughout this day.
