The Lord is king, Most High over all the earth. — Psalm 97:1 and 9
Mass Readings: Daniel 7:9-10,13-14 / 2 Peter 1:16-19 / Matthew 17:1-9
Today’s Gospel says Peter, James and John “were very much afraid” when they saw the Transfiguration of Jesus but He tells them not to fear. There’s an important lesson in this dazzling display of God’s glory.
Jesus went up the mountain with His apostles to pray and, today, He invites us to do the same: to pray with Him. Prayer is the “lifting of the heart and mind to God” but what happens when the man who is God the Son lifts up His heart to God the Father? Think about that scenario for a moment and you’ll get an idea of what was happening in the Transfiguration. A small, shining light of Christ’s interior life is revealed, and the result is overpowering even to His closest followers. Imagine now what heaven must be like.
Prayer: Jesus, I wish to receive Your light of life and not be frightened.
