I will take the cup of salvation, and call on the name of the Lord. — Psalm 116:13
Mass Readings: Exodus 11:10-12:14 / Matthew 12:1-8
Today’s Old Testament reading gives us the story of the Passover and, in accord with the Scripture, the Jewish people continue to celebrate this feast as a memorial of the escape of the Jews from Egypt. As the reading notes, there are very precise instructions for the preparation and celebration of the feast.
In the Gospel, though, we see Jesus telling the Pharisees that there’s something above the laws. He never tells them to do away with laws, or even to change the laws, but He stresses that there are things that are more important. The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath and greater than the Temple. Is He most important in our lives?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help us to remember to put You first.
