July 3, Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

I will praise your name forever, my king and my God.— Psalm 145:(see 1)

Mass Readings: Zechariah 9:9-10 / Romans 8:9,11-13 / Matthew 11:25-30

Take a Break

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us to come to Him when we’re burdened and He’ll give us rest. But even when we take a break from our work and our everyday cares, we still need to turn to Him and learn from Him in order to lighten our loads, to ease our concerns. Psalm 145 teaches, “The Lord lifts up all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down.”

Many of us will celebrate this holiday weekend at the beach, at a barbecue, or at a gathering with family or friends. Even in the golden days of summer — or maybe especially then! — we need to remember the Lord who comes to us and who gives us the gift of life.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me slow down and focus on what really matters: You.
