The Lord has remembered his mercy. — Luke 1:(see 54)
Mass readings: Genesis 18:1-15 / Matthew 8:5-17
You’ve probably heard the remark, “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.” In today’s first reading, we learn that the reverse is also true. God’s plans for me, if I knew them, might seem so outlandish that, like Sarah when she hears she’ll soon be pregnant, I would laugh. I know that’s true when I look back over the twists and turns of even the last few years.
Just for fun, stand back a moment and ask yourself, “How did I get here? In this place? In this job? In this relationship?” I bet you’ll see signs of what could only be the hand of God. And you don’t need to be shy like Sarah, just go ahead and laugh. Then look forward to what He has in store for you today.
Prayer: God, I don’t always know Your plan for me, but I embrace it.
