The just will gaze on your face, O Lord.— Psalm 11:(see 7)
Mass readings: Morning: Acts 11:21-26;13:1-3 / John 21:20-25
One can imagine St. John smiling as he wrote today’s Gospel passage, recalling Peter’s passing jealousy and the funny conclusion people jumped to because of Jesus’ reply. (Some had concluded John would not die.) I wonder if John was also thinking about his readers, saying, “Listen carefully to what the Master said. Just look at the silly ideas people come up with if they fail to pay attention!”
Not all of Jesus’ words are easy. They need to be prayed over and read repeatedly, and they take on new meaning with each day, each circumstance. That’s how we know that, even though Jesus spoke 2,000 years ago, His words are alive and continue to bear fruit. That’s why there will never be enough books to contain all that Jesus has done and has yet to do.
Prayer: Jesus, I want Your words to live in me today.
