June 5, Seventh Sunday of Easter

I believe that I shall see the good things of the Lord in the land of the living.— Psalm 27:13

Mass readings: Acts 1:12-14 / 1 Peter 4:13-16 / John 17:1-11

The Work You Gave Me

In our own ways, we’ll all come to the place where Jesus stands in today’s Gospel. When my own hour has come, I hope I’ll be able to say the same words to the Father as Jesus does: “I glorified You on earth by accomplishing the work that You gave me to do.”

Meanwhile it’s helpful to know just what that work is. The specifics are different for each of us, but Jesus gives some pretty clear guidelines: Do my actions reveal the Lord to those in my care? Have I discharged my responsibilities in a way that helps others to know Him? Have I always prayed for the ones He has given me — my family, my coworkers and friends, the strangers He has put in my path?

Prayer: Give me work, Lord, that I may glorify You.
