God is king of all the earth. — Psalm 47:8
Mass readings: Acts 18:23-28 / John 16:23-28
In today’s first reading, we are introduced to Apollos, an enthusiastic convert to Christ who becomes an important missionary. Paul will speak about Apollos in his first letter to the Corinthians as the one who “waters” the seeds of faith that Paul has “planted.”
Who planted the faith in you? Who waters it? Those questions may be a little easier to answer for adult converts. Cradle Catholics — I’m one — may need to go farther back. For me, the planter was my grandmother, whose faith guided everything she did and said. Those who watered the seed she planted: at first, the teachers — lay and Religious — in my Catholic grade school. But later, and today, the faithful people around me whose loving kindness speaks of Jesus every day.
Prayer: Thank you, God, for all those You have sent to nourish my soul.
