With the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption. — Psalm 130:7
Mass readings: Ezekiel 37:12-14 / Romans 8:8-11 / John 11:1-45 or 11:3-7,17,20-27,33-45
I learned about lying firsthand back when I was a substitute paperboy. There was one fellow who promised to pay me but never did. He was older and bigger than I was and I’d walk to his house, ask him about the money he owed me and he’d offer more excuses. Finally, I gave up.
One reason Jesus got in trouble with the higher-ups is He told the truth. One reason some disciples abandoned Him is He told the truth. In today’s first reading the Lord says, “I have promised, and I will do it.” God doesn’t lie to us. Ever. Today’s readings talk of eternal life but it’s life after death, just as it was for Jesus. Between here and there are our crosses, just as they were for Him, too.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life, help those who have been hurt by dishonesty.
