From all their distress God recues the just. — Psalm 34:18
Mass readings: Isaiah 55:10-11 / Matthew 6:7-15
Some of the most reassuring lines of Scripture come from Isaiah 55: “So shall my word that goes forth from my mouth; It shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it.”
Recently, I witnessed the authenticity of these verses. While staying at a large city hotel, I spoke with some of the 5,000 Indian-American Catholics attending a convention there in honor of their long-standing faith introduced by St. Thomas, the apostle. Although Thomas preached God’s word in India nearly 2,000 years ago, it’s still bearing fruit in faith-energized families now living on the opposite side of the globe. I was especially impressed by the youth who told me they take Catholicism seriously, holding onto it tenaciously.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your apostles who broadcast the Good News which still lives today!
