The Source of Wisdom  

There’s been no scarcity of information available to us in the Internet age but, as today’s first reading reminds us, “All wisdom comes from the Lord.” Biblical wisdom goes beyond knowledge; it’s about viewing things from God’s perspective, and it’s focused on knowing God’s will and walking in God’s ways. This presupposes faith; hence, while “Fools say in their hearts, ‘There is no God’” (Ps 14:1), “The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord” (Prv 9:10). 

God is the source of all wisdom and — as James teaches — “if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives to all generously” (Jas 1:5). That’s precisely what the father in today’s Gospel did by crying out to Jesus, “Help my unbelief!” 

Prayer: Lord, grant me Your wisdom, that I may know Your will and walk in Your ways.
