The Lord takes delight in his people. — Psalm 149:(see 4)
Mass Readings: 1 John 5:14-21 / John 3:22-30
Consider this verse from the beginning of the first reading: “We have this confidence in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us” (1 Jn 5:14). The Scripture doesn’t say that God will do what we want Him to do. It doesn’t even say that He will answer our prayer at all. It simply says that He will hear us. God hears our prayers — that should be sufficient. When you think about it, it’s astounding that God, the creator of all things, listens to what we say to Him.
The reading goes on to say that when we pray for someone in trouble, “God will give him life” (v. 16). This reading gives me confidence to bring my cares to God, who hears me and gives life to the broken.
Prayer: Father, I know You hear my prayers. Thank You for listening.
