October 3, Twenty-Seventh Sunday

If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts. — Psalm 95:8

Mass Readings: Habakkuk 1:2-3;2:2-4 / 2 Timothy 1:6-8,13-14 / Luke 17:5-10

Power of Faith

Today’s Gospel about the mustard seed brings to mind the time I was teaching CCD and brought a bottle of mustard seeds to show the class. You guessed it! One of the students spilled the container and we had tiny seeds all over the floor. We swept them up and a minor catastrophe was resolved.

This was nothing compared to the major catastrophes that plague our world. Strife, wars and violence are rampant in our cities and countries. Our faith is shaken. What is one person to do? A start might well be spending a holy hour of prayer in the parish adoration chapel, or by just praying at home. Prayer brings peace to our hearts and, eventually, the world.

Prayer: Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.
