Your word, O Lord, is a lamp for my feet. — Psalm 119:105
Mass Readings: Proverbs 30:5-9 / Luke 9:1-6
After college I backpacked through Europe with my brother. We rode the trains, slept in youth hostels, and ate in cheap restaurants or bought bread and cheese for dinner. We survived on $10 a day. Our budget was spare but we were living large. We saw magnificent churches, great works of art, and historical monuments. We met scores of bright and friendly fellow backpackers from all over the world. I never felt so alive. We were young and innocent, trusted by those we met and trusting them in return.
In today’s Gospel Jesus dispatches His disciples and instructs them to take nothing on the journey. Like the disciples, we’re sent into the world to share the Good News. God will provide for us as He did for them.
Prayer: Lord, let me trust in You and go through the day with faith and hope.
