September 2, Thursday Weekday

To the Lord belongs the earth and all that fills it. — Psalm 24:1

Mass Readings: 1 Corinthians 3:18-23 / Luke 5:1-11

Human Heroes

My wife says I am easily impressed and she’s right. When I see a movie I like, I want to see another with the same director. I’m like that with with books and music, too. I’m drawn to talented people and assume they can be brilliant all the time. The worst part is that I confuse their talent with virtue. That director, author, or musician just must be kind and friendly.

In today’s Gospel Jesus impresses Simon Peter with the bountiful haul of fish. Jesus produced astonishing results and that drew people to Him. He was the most impressive person the disciples had ever met. What He said and did on a daily basis was the best of humanity and yet beyond the normal. That’s the point. He was the Incarnation.

Prayer: Lord, help me place You at the very center of my life.
