The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
— Psalm 23:1
Mass Readings: Ezekiel 34:1-11 / Matthew 20:1-16
Today’s Gospel about the laborers being hired throughout the day probably hits home to more people recently because unemployment has affected so many homes. At first glance, those hired first seem to have a legitimate complaint but they’re overlooking something else they received that day. They knew they had a job, they knew they were bringing home some money that night. Not so with the last hired. For most of the day, they probably worried about how they were going to feed the family that night and the following day.
That’s one more reason why when we’re ready to mutter “No fair!” it’s wise to take a second look, a closer look, and count our blessings.
Prayer: Dear Lord, give courage and strength to all those looking for work.
