Eternal Rest

Late at night I entered a bank’s outdoor alcove to withdraw money from the ATM and I nearly tripped over a man lying on the ground, sound asleep. A small dog curled up beside him snarled so I bent down and spoke softly, letting the little creature sniff me until finally, he wagged his tail. His destitute owner woke up and I directed t h e m an to a nearby emergency shelter. I admired the dog’s loyalty. 

Jesus warns a would-be disciple that He’s a homeless wanderer, with nowhere to rest His head. Sometimes, following Christ is hard. We can’t sleep on a bed of roses while others persecute, hate and hurt us. But the hope of spending eternity in heaven makes our suffering on earth worthwhile.

Prayer: Jesus, when I suffer, remind me of my eternal rest with You.
