I will sing of your salvation. — Psalm 71:(see 15)
Mass Readings: 2 Timothy 4:1-8 / Mark 12:38-44
How many times I wished I had more energy, more money , or more “something” to share with others. In spite of my best efforts, I always fall short of my goals. This is when I’m forced to humbly recognize that I’m a mere human being, not God. But when my hands are empty I can still fold them together and offer prayers.
In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus points out that a widow’s contribution in the Temple had more value than the surplus offered by others because she gave all that she owned. While it’s good to give our “all” to God, we can’t give more than what we have. God doesn’t expect us to. Whether we give a little or a lot, it’s our love that makes the gift valuable.
Prayer: Jesus, even when I have nothing left to give, I offer my love to You.
