Come with joy into the presence of the Lord. — Psalm 100:2
Mass Readings: 1 Peter 2:2-5,9-12 / Mark 10:46-52
One of the hardest questions I face is “What do you want?” So many options beckon. Some restaurants offer eight-page menus, plus daily specials. Car makers sell dozens of models with endless lists of options. Libraries and bookstores contain tens of thousands of titles. That doesn’t even touch the really important decisions.
Contrast that to Bartimaeus, the blind man, who defied those around him to gain the attention of a passing Jesus. Then, when Jesus called him, Bartimaeus sprang up, threw aside his cloak, and came to him. “Jesus said to him in reply, ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ The blind man replied to him, ‘Master, I want to see’” (Mk 10:51). That’s the decisiveness I need to what’s essential in my life.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me to cut through the clutter and to know what matters.
