Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth. — Psalm 68:33
Mass Readings: Acts 19:1-8 / John 16:29-33
A s an introvert, sometimes I like to be alone. It’s exhausting being with others, interacting and not having quiet time to reflect on what they’ve said before I need to respond. Yet, when I say I want to be “alone,” I really mean that I want to be “by myself” for a while. Truly “being alone” means being isolated, friendless, cut off from everyone.
That’s what Jesus meant when He told His disciples that soon “each of you will be scattered to his own home and you will leave Me alone” (Jn 16:32) while He is tortured and crucified. “But,” Jesus said, “I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.” Sometimes I, too, feel alone and then I find great comfort in knowing that Jesus and the Father are at my side.
Prayer: Jesus, Your consoling presence brings me great comfort when I need it most.
