Your friends make known, O Lord, the glorious splendor of your kingdom. -- Psalm 145: (see 12)
Mass Readings: Acts 14:19-28/John 14:27-31
On hectic days when I feel overwhelmed by numerous demands, I often find myself saying: “Please, no more e-mails, phone calls or requests for help. I just want some peace and quiet.” Sometimes, I get it. Yet I know that calm will quickly pass and soon I’ll again be immersed in life’s many demands.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus offers a different sort of peace. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you” (Jn 14:27). For me, the peace Jesus offers is the certainty that no matter what happens, Jesus is there for me and with me, as He will be for all eternity. That’s the sort of peace that silent phones can never bring.
Prayer: Jesus, may I embrace the peace that only You can offer me.
