The Lord hears the cry of the poor.-- Psalm 34:7
Mass readings: Acts 5:27-33 / John 3:31-36
Those of us old enough to have driven back then remember the gasoline rationing in 1973-1974. You could fuel up on odd or even days based on the last digit of your license plate number, assuming, of course, that the gas station had any gasoline that day. Remember green, yellow and red coded flags?
In today's Gospel reading we're told that ''God does not ration his gift of the Spirit.'' Indeed, ''The Father loves the Son and has given everything over to him.'' In turn the Risen Lord has poured out the Spirit on His Church. And, unlike some drivers during the oil embargo, God isn't a hoarder. God doesn't need to hoard the Spirit in case supplies get low. He's eager to constantly pour out the Spirit on us without limit.
Prayer: O God, pour out Your Spirit on us so that we may witness Jesus to the world.
