The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy. -- Psalm 126:3
Mass readings: Isaiah 43:16-21 / Philippians 3:8-14 / John 8:1-11
Today's readings again had me thinking about my 83-year-old Uncle Ronald. Though I've known him all my life, I've only recently gotten to know him. He's always been there but when Aunt Jean died unexpectedly, he and I started a conversation that hasn't ended. For the first time, he spoke of childhood memories. He shared stories of deep hurts, disappointments and loss. Self-disclosure has been healing for both of us, and has created a close bond. At the heart of our friendship is shared sorrow and shared faith.
In Philippians 3:10 St. Paul speaks about what it means to truly know Christ. Yes, we may know all about Christ and His resurrection, the heart of our faith. But apart from sharing Christ's sufferings, we may never truly know Him.
Prayer: May we, with St. Paul, come to know Christ completely. St. Paul, pray for us.
