Taste and see the goodness of the Lord--Psalm 34:9
Mass readings: Joshua 5:9,10-12 / 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 / Luke 15:1-3,11-32
As soon as the first Passover was celebrated in the Promised Land, the manna ceased (Jos 5:12). Lent is a season of returning to desert ways of living. Fasting reminds us that God is our source. As we strain toward the renewal of spring, the long winter days remind us that we are dependent creatures.
For Jack and me, financial difficulties are also a return to desert ways. They remind us that God is our source. We cut expenses and strain toward the next bit of income, waiting for a windfall, watching for manna. And the manna comes. Manna is an unexpected refund. Manna is a bag of garden produce from a generous neighbor. Manna in compensation for writing or teaching. And we learn in deeper ways that ''one does not live by bread alone'' (Mt 4:4).
Prayer: We thank You for Your provision, Lord. Please grant us grateful hearts.
