February 19, Friday Lenten Weekday

A heart contrite and humbled, O God, you will not spurn.-- Psalm 51:19

Mass readings: Isaiah 58:1-9 / Matthew 9:14-15

If We Continue to Follow

Today in Isaiah we read about man's false commitment to God. Tomorrow the poem continues about the joy and treasures that await if we only follow. In the New Testament, I remember Jesus telling the Pharisees the same thing. Looking around, I see today that a lot hasn't changed. Why do we not follow? Is it our doubt, our insecurity, our pride and ego? It will be a different answer for each of us.

For those who enjoy reading, especially poetry, the more we know about the author and the circumstances of the published works, the more we will learn and the more we will enjoy the pieces. Today would be a good day to learn more about the Book of Isaiah and its author.

Prayer: I possess many faults, Lord. Have patience and help me to follow Your words.
