I have found David, my servant.-- Psalm 89:21
Mass readings:1 Samuel 16:1-13 / Mark 2:23-28
My dad had two life-saving heart surgeries and both were completed by the same man, a prominent heart surgeon in our area who also became one of my father's good friends. I often marveled at the thought of this man who had such an intimate glimpse into my father's life and literally held his life (and heart) in his hands.
Today's first reading explains something even more miraculous: God sees each one of us and looks into our hearts. Truly, God knows us by heart. I wonder what He sees. What if we could see each other's hearts? Would it make us more compassionate? Would we judge less and love more? The answers to these questions lie within our own heart . . . and that's one heart we can examine to find out.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, illuminate my mind and heart to see others as You do.
