Praise the Lord, Jerusalem.--Psalm 147:12
Mass readings:1 John 5:5-13 / Luke 5:12-16
We don't know how many people Jesus healed during His public ministry. Today's Gospel tells us of one such encounter, but the Bible states elsewhere that Jesus performed enough miracles and cures to fill volumes. One consistent thread runs through Jesus' actions; he often ''withdrew to a deserted place to pray.''
During my own prayer time, I often meditate upon this image of Jesus praying alone and I'm humbled. When I'm tempted to think I'm too busy to pray, I'm reminded that nothing that I have to do is more important than what Jesus had to do. In fact, the most important thing that I can do is go to Him in prayer with confidence knowing that He'll never be too busy to meet me there.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, teach me to pray as I ought.
