Our help is in the name of the Lord.-- Psalm 124:8
Mass readings: Romans 6:12-18 / Luke 12:39-48
In today's Gospel Jesus is talking about the parousia -- His second coming. He's warning the disciples to stay prepared. No, it's not likely that will happen in your lifetime or mine but . . . that doesn't let us off the hook. Even if Jesus doesn't come to us in that way, we -- sooner or later -- are going to go to Him.
In fact, there's no guarantee we'll have a ''later.'' We may have only now. Only a few more years. Months. Days. Wanting only what's best for us, Jesus is urging us to make use of that time wisely. Not to focus on that upcoming moment in fear but let the reality of its inevitability encourage us to live fully for Him today.
Prayer: Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
