Rejoice, O hearts that seek the Lord.--Psalm 105:3
Mass readings: Acts 3:1-10 / Luke 24:13-35
The two disciples in today's Gospel seem to be ''in the know.'' They know they're headed for Emmaus (but not what they'll do when they get there). They know what's just happened in Jerusalem (but not what it means). They know they've met a stranger on the way (but not that He is himself ''the way''). It's as He breaks bread with them that they recognize who He is and find in Him the meaning of their lives.
We, too, are ''on the road,'' not knowing where it will lead us as we try to piece together the fragmented facts of our lives. Like these disciples, we too find unity and peace in the breaking of the bread, in our communion with the One who is ''the way and the truth and the life'' (John 14:6).
Prayer: Stay with us, Lord, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over.
