Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.-- Psalm 106:1
Mass readings: Exodus 32:15-24,30-34 / Matthew 13:31-35
In today's Gospel, Jesus talks about yeast, a tiny agent that acts as a powerful catalyst. Humble and hidden, it works silently but effectively. Yesterday's Gospel recounted the story of the multiplication of the little boy's loaves and fish to feed the vast crowd, and I can't help but connect that narrative with today's passage. When the lad's mother packed his lunch, little did she realize into whose hands it would fall and how many hungry stomachs it would fill. She was just doing her job, faithfully providing for her child's needs, yet God used her humble, hidden act of love and multiplied it beyond her dreams.
This is how the kingdom of God operates -- the Lord Almighty taking small, inconspicuous works of charity, blessing them and giving them to a love-starved world.
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for littleness, an ingredient that is a catalyst for Your mighty work.
