I praise you, for I am wonderfully made.-- Psalm 139:14
Mass readings: Vigil: Jeremiah 1:4-10 / 1 Peter 1:8-12 / Luke 1:5-17, Day: Isaiah 49:1-6 / Acts 13:22-26 / Luke 1:57-66,80
I have a role to play at the school where I work. Sure, I'm replaceable, but if I just walked off the job, there would be some chaos until another teacher began doing my job. The same can be said of the school's office secretary, the IT guy, and the principal. We each have a place in the way things run.
Today's readings, for both the Vigil Mass and the Mass of the Day, speak of the specific place John the Baptist had in God's plan for the world's salvation. It was prepared for him from the beginning. His was an important one, but it wasn't the only one. He certainly can't do everything that needs to be done for God's plan to be carried out. What's your role? The rest of us, and God, are counting on you.
Prayer: St. John the Baptist, pray for us!
