The Lord has established his throne in heaven.-- Psalm 103:19
Mass readings: Acts 25:13-21 / John 21:15-19
Jesus may have been using an analogy in today's Gospel when He said, ''When you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.'' But in reality, growing old is truly a humbling experience.
Both of my parents were diagnosed with cancer within four months of each other last year. As I have walked with them through this wearing experience, I've been challenged by their example of faithfulness and humility. No one desires a chronic disease or other life-altering reality. But humbly trusting this reality as somehow part of God's plan of salvation is to follow Christ's example of obedience to the Father. In this way, through their suffering, my parents continue to witness Christ to our community.
Prayer: Jesus, give me the courage to follow You always.
