Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel; he has come to his people.-- Luke 1:(see 68)
Mass readings: Hebrews 11:1-2, 8-19 / Mark 4:35-41
Today's first reading reminds us that ''faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen.'' I got a glimpse of this once, thanks to my mother's faith.
When my mom died there was beauty mingled with sorrow. I felt grateful for her love and wisdom, and for the closeness of our family. My sisters and I supported each other in our grief, just as Mom would have wanted. These were the blessings I could see, but there was more -- a beauty that I couldn't see. Just before she died, Mom said to me, ''Oh, Barbara . . . it's all one, and it's beautiful.'' Nothing in her hospital room warranted that comment. I don't know what she saw, but I trust that God was in it, and I trust that she is at peace.
Prayer: Glory be to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.
