The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.--Psalm 37:39
Mass readings:Hebrews 10:32-39 / Mark 4:26-34
I have a phobia about driving over bridges and let me tell you, the Delaware Memorial Bridge is a doozy. Nevertheless, I ventured across it once to visit family. As I started out my palms got sweaty. My heart pounded. I wanted to turn around, but I had passed the point of no return. Making a U turn on the bridge meant certain disaster. There was nothing to do but to continue on, and pray until I reached the other side.
Today's first reading was written to believers suffering because of their faith. They're reminded of the trials they'd already endured and of their faith in God's promise. They're encouraged to continue on and to pray. In the words of the Good News Translation: ''We are not people who turn back and are lost''!
Prayer: Almighty Father, grant us perseverance and courage as we put our trust in You.
