God upholds his city forever.--Psalm 48:(see9)

Mass readings: Isaiah 7:1-9 / Matthew 11:20-24

Taking God for Granted

Do you ever find yourself taking God for granted? I do. Sometimes I can go through my day without giving much thought to Him. Then when I do stop to reflect, it can be hard for me to trust He was there at all. I can't see His presence, only the flow of events.

How well Jesus' words in today's Gospel address this problem! He rebuked the townspeople for their failing to repent even after they had witnessed ''his mighty deeds,'' but sometimes aren't I the same way? They didn't see His works as that extraordinary, and neither do I, failing to notice His hand behind the job that fell into my lap or the healing of a friendship I'd given up for lost. He's visible, but I have to adjust my vision, learning to better recognize His love in the everyday events of my life.

Prayer: Lord, give me the grace to clearly see Your love in my life!
