Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth. — Psalm 68:33
Mass Readings: Acts 19:1-8/John 16:29-33
Jesus was fully human. He felt hunger, thirst and fatigue. He experienced anger, sorrow, and loneliness, He looked for and enjoyed companionship and friendship. In His last hours on earth, Jesus shared a farewell meal with His closest friends. In those last precious moments of life, He sought the presence and prayerful support of the three Peter, James and John. And although he was betrayed by false friends and deserted by loyal friends, Jesus never gave into despair.
Today’s Gospel reveals the secret of Jesus’ serenity and strength: it’s His unfailing confidence that “I am not alone, because the Father is with me.” Jesus treasured His friends, but trusted himself completely only to the Father. Family is precious; friends are to be prized; but first place in our hearts is reserved for the priceless pearl of our relationship with God.
Prayer: Faithful Father, let me build my life upon the unwavering certainty of Your abiding presence.
