You are my Son; this day I have begotten you. — Psalm 2:7
Mass Readings: Acts 13:26-33/John 14:1-6
When Jesus says in today’s Gospel, “I am the way and the truth and the life,” He sums up salvation and explains the Eucharist He is about to institute.
Without the way, I am lost. Nothing on earth, although created by God, can lead me to Him. Without the truth, I am deceived. I will either deny God, or worship idols like power or wealth or pleasure. Without eternal life, I am dead. This world and everything in it, myself included, will perish. By coming into the world, by His crucifixion and resurrection, and by giving us His Body and Blood to eat and drink, Jesus opened the door to His Father. Then He sent his followers — and we are His followers — to show Him to all the rest who are lost, deceived, and dying.
Prayer: Lord, You alone have the words of eternal life.
