Go out to all the world and tell the Good News. — Mark 16:15
Mass Readings: Acts 9:1-20/John 6:52-59
Today’s first reading from Acts shows God recruiting an apostle in dramatic fashion. And the one He picks is a surprise. When He tells Ananias to visit Saul and heal his blindness, Ananias reacts incredulously. “That guy? He’s imprisoning Your people!” But God describes Saul as His “chosen instrument” to convert Jews, Gentiles and kings.
Do I feel like a “chosen instrument”? Because, while the choice may seem surprising, I am. Each of us is chosen by God “to carry My name” before others. We all have our calling, to be married or single or clerical or religious. But whatever my basic vocation, God’s will for me is specific and ongoing. I learn that will through prayer and openness to the Spirit, and then I choose to accept it or not.
Prayer: God, I seek Your will for me today, and ask for the strength to embrace it.
