March 31, Easter Sunday

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad. — Psalm 118:24

Mass Readings: Acts 10:34a, 37-43/Colossians 3:1-4/Luke 24:1-12 or, at an afternoon or evening Mass, Lk 24:13-35

Empty Tombs

Today’s reading from Luke reminds me of a billboard I saw outside a local church. It said: “Today’s sermon: Jesus Walks on Water. Tonight’s sermon: Looking for Jesus.” The disciples in today’s Gospel were looking for Jesus all right, but according to the “men in dazzling garments,” they were searching in the wrong place.

How many people do you know who are looking for hope and meaning in the wrong place? Instead of seeking out the risen Lord, they turn to the empty tombs of wealth, status, or substances to fill the God-shaped void in their hearts. Today, as we celebrate the resurrection of Our Lord, let’s pray for those who don’t yet know Him—so that when “Christ our life appears,” they too might have the hope of appearing with Him in glory.

Prayer: Risen Lord, let my life be a witness to those who sorely need You.
